May is practice Challenge Month! Be sure to grab a practice challenge calendar to participate. Calendars are printed and available in Wexford and Sewickley, or print from above.
As nicer weather sets in, schools let out, and summer season approaches, a few helpful things to remember:
- Make Up Week is June 27-July 2. Need a refresher on how it works? Read on!
- Youth Voices is back again! Summertime Serenade Chorus is open for registration. Rehearsals begin on June 24!
- Now is the time to register for Summer Camps and Summer Sessions lessons! Spots are filling up, so be sure to register early! If you are registering for camp, use the code EARLYBIRD16 before May 15 for $25 off!

CYM Alumnae Claire Jacob is holding a benefit concert on May 7th to fund their initiative in Patzún, Guatemala to create and implement a special needs tutoring program at San Bernadino elementary, middle, and high schools. This should be an excellent performance for a great cause!

CYM Graduate Alexandra Schnatterly held her senior recital on Sunday, April 24th to an audience of friends, family, and CYM supporters. The recital featured special performing guests Ms. Elisabeth, Ms. Leah, and Mr. Jake.

Make Up Week is June 27-July 2
- Only make-up lessons happen this week. Lessons and classes must be reserved this week by calling our administration at 724-935-0505 by June 20.
- Monday, June 27th is a make-up day for Memorial Day. All regularly scheduled lessons will happen as usual. If Monday students need an additional make-up, they may call to schedule an additional make-up for that week.
- Group classes remain scheduled at their usual time, but will only be held if students have called to confirm their attendance by June 20. These group classes are only for students who need a make-up.
- Lessons do not have to be confined to your usual lesson day/time after June 20th. You may schedule earlier/later times as available, but not after Friday, June 24.
- For all students who are caught-up on their make-up lessons, please enjoy the week off!

- Piano Group 9:00 AM Saturday, May 28 in Sewickley
Department Groups are very important! Plan to attend.
Monthly department groups are a meeting of each instrument’s full department- cello, piano, violin and viola, guitar, and voice. During the 45-60 minute group class, students may learn from a different teacher than their lesson instructor, focus on instrument or voice specific music literacy or technique goals. Examples of this could be things like musicality and phrasing, tempo, or stage presence. The class is also an excellent opportunity for students to perform their pieces for one another in a repertory class style. Sometimes department groups may work in conjunction with a master class, workshop or activity, or special performance, such as a spot on the Saturday Light Brigade Radio program or opening for a PSO concert.
Participation in department group is for everyone!
