Thursday, November 17, is Beaujolais Nouveau Day!
Beaujolais nouveau is a special variety of wine produced in the Beaujolais region of France. It is such a popular wine that the local wineries have a bit of a competition to get their first bottles released for sale, and they are always officially released on the third Thursday in November. Under French law, the wine is released at 12:01 am, just weeks after the sweet, jewel-toned Gamay grapes have been harvested. Parties big and small are held throughout the country and around the world celebrating this favored wine, with about 120 celebrations in the Beaujolais region alone!

What makes creating a little (or big!) Beaujolais Nouveau Day celebration so fun and easy is that the wine goes so well with a variety of foods, from haute cuisine to pizza, sushi, or even Chinese takeout! It goes well with foods like roasted turkey as well, which makes it a perfect drink for the holidays.

Camembert and Brie are the classic Beaujolais-and-cheese-pairing. The light, fruity red wine goes perfectly with a creamy, mellow cheese like these. Try Pierre Robert, Camembert, or Fromager d'Affinois! Mild cheddar would also be nice, and on the opposite side of the spectrum, pungent Morbier goes great with it, too!
