Open Air Gallery Opening November 7
The Shadyside Chamber of Commerce is pleased to support an open air photography gallery on Walnut Street. This pop-up gallery will be coordinated by Captured::Pittsburgh who will curate artwork from photos submitted on social media. The program is planned to last 12 months, with a new exhibition on display each month.
The gallery will be located in the parklet across from the Apple Store on Walnut. Our hope is that the gallery enhances this space to create a destination in the neighborhood. The photographs will be hung along the walls on either side, mounted on weather-proof metal panels, commissioned by Captured::Pittsburgh.
The first selection of 8 photographs will be unveiled at the gallery opening on Monday, November 7th from 5:30-8pm. The unveiling will occur at 6pm, with a reception to follow at the William Penn Tavern’s back deck, located right off the parklet. Please join us!

Pet Photos with Santa
Bring your pets to Petagogy on Saturday, November 19 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm for photos with Santa taken by expert local pet photographer Jenny Karlsson Photography! Jenny will take free digital photos of your pet(s) sitting on Santa's lap and will email you the photo plus provide options for ordering prints, holiday cards and more!
Pets will be seen on a first come, first served basis and must be comfortable around other animals and people. Dogs must be on leashes (no retractable leashes, please). Radiant Is the World Soul and Requiem
Shadyside Presbyterian Church invites you to these musical events in November:
The Duquesne University Choirs on Friday, November 4, at 7:30 p.m. Music in a Great Space presents the Duquesne University choirs, singing Radiant Is the World Soul, a musical celebration of the human spirit, triumphant in the face of adversity. Tickets cost $15, or $10 for seniors (60 and older). Tickets are free for students with valid I.D.
A Service of Remembrance for All Saints on Sunday, November 6, at 3:00 p.m. In memory of those who have passed away, the Shadyside Chancel Choir will present the Requiem setting by English composer Herbert Howells in liturgical context, with Communion. (Worship is always free and open to the public; no tickets necessary.)

What is Aphasia?
The HCR Manorcare Rehabilitation Team assists in the rehabilitation of patients with a range of medical conditions. Aphasia is a communication disorder that results from damage on the left side of the brain, most often caused by a stroke. Individuals with aphasia may have difficulty speaking, understanding language, or reading and writing. In collaboration with the patient, the therapist determines a treatment plan that focuses on improving overall communication. Therapy sessions may focus on a range of tasks such as sentence formation, word retrieval, and following directions. Family can improve their communication through strategies such as minimizing distractions, using simple sentences, speaking slowly, providing the patient with time to speak, using pictures or gestures, and asking the patient yes/no questions. Consult with the SLP To determine what strategies are most effective and appropriate for each patient with aphasia.
