WELCOME TO A NEW SEASON AT MILLER GALLERY!
This Fall 2015, we examine sounds as a medium of contemporary art-a medium that only entered art institutions in the early 1980s.  By the mid-90s, "Sound Art" had almost become a fad.  However, it was not until 2011 that the Museum of Modern Art had its first sound exhibition.  The Miller Gallery's AFTERSOUND attempts to critically read sound's history in recent art, by juxtaposing historical with recent work, excavating the terms of sound-as-art that has been redefined, saturated, and made anew. Visit us in the gallery and online to experience sonic installations, interactive sound works, and myriad of visual scores, graphic notations, and sound visualizations.

Sound has entered contemporary art in profound and unexpected ways. This exhibition explores sound’s infiltration into contemporary discussions of aural and visual culture, with a particular focus on sound visualization, the physics of sound, political uses of sound, i.e. sonic warfare and DIY, as well as the resurgence of neo-metaphysical experiments with sound as a portal to new sensory experiences.
