February is dedicated to the Holy Family, our model for the Catholic home. More here.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendour of true love, to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic Churches. May families never again experience violence, rejection and division. May all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing. Make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family and its beauty in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer.-Pope Francis

Ash Wednesday Ashes
Feb. 10th at noon Mass
Lent begins early this year! Come to Our Lady's Center for Mass at noon on February 10th and receive ashes. The ashes come from last year's blessed Palm Sunday palms, one of the many sacred traditions that convey the inexpressible richness of our beautiful Catholic faith.
Also, as Lent begins, consider stepping out of your comfort zone and committing to pray one hour a week in front of an abortion facility. 40 Days for Life is a peaceful campaign of prayer and fasting for the end to abortion. Since 2007, over 11,000 lives have been saved. Be a part of it HERE.
Venerate the True Cross
Friday, Feb. 12th after
Noon & 7:30 pm Masses

Join us for this special opportunity to venerate the actual cross upon which Our Lord died for our salvation! Our Lady's Center is the humble steward of this relic, and we will be making it available for veneration during two Fridays this Lent: February 12th and March 18th, following both our noon and 7:30 pm Masses. Veneration will take place before Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for Friday Adoration and will also be followed by Confessions and the Stations of the Cross. Come make this Lent an extra special one with us! And click HERE to learn more about the Catholic Church and relics.

Defend Life Talk:
Fr. Paul Schenck

Tuesday, Feb. 19th, 1:00 pm
The Spring Defend Life Lecture Tour kicks off with Fr. Paul CB Schenck speaking on "Rights, Wrongs and Responsibilities: My Third of a Century in Pro-Life Activism". Father of nine and a Catholic convert, Fr. Schenck is a theology professor, health care ethicist, and a seasoned veteran of the Pro-Life advocacy movement, having spent the last 32 years as a crisis pregnancy and sidewalk counselor, teacher, media spokesman, author, teacher, certified ethicist, federal prisoner and Supreme Court petitioner. Let's turn out big for this fearless and tireless defender of the innocent.
Traditional Latin Mass
& Pot Luck

Tuesday, Feb. 23, 6:30 pm
Please join us for a meditative low Mass offered by Fr. Canisius Tah of the Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City. Missals are provided with Latin on one side and English on the other, so it is not difficult to follow along. After Mass, we will enjoy another fun potluck in the conference room. Please bring something to share if you can and take advantage of a great chance to ask Father questions and to make some new friends. Find out why Traditional Latin Mass is so awesome HERE

IN THE NEWS...

Please Remain Vigilant
Once again, legislation is being introduced into the Maryland legislature promoting assisted suicide under the guise of compassion. Do not be misled by the good intentions of those promoting this legislation or by the innocuous name it will surely be given. Assisted suicide, like abortion, is the deliberate taking of human life, and the Catholic Church recognizes all such state-sanctioned practices as inherently evil. Read more here and here, and prayerfully consider contacting your legislators to encourage them to defend the sanctity of human life.

OLC Weathers the Blizzard of 2016
Image
Thanks to the valiant efforts and dedication of patron Patrick Snell, Our Lady's Center was able to open within three days of the largest single-storm snowfall on record in Baltimore. Patrick managed to plow us out in amazing time from deep drifted snow and a layer of ice, and we only missed one business day and were able to hold two Masses on a day when some area parishes were still closed. Thank you, Patrick, for your generous service.
OLC Enjoys a Surprise Visit from Fr. Nelson!
Image
OLC was overjoyed by an unannounced visit from Fr. Nelson Ogwuegbu who used to say Mass for us before becoming a Chaplain in the U.S. Air Force. Fr. Nelson is currently stationed in Missouri and was back in town for treatment for a broken arm. He said he had to make it back to OLC, which he calls his home. Fr. Anthony Anichukwu was thrilled to see Fr. Nelson, his mentor, among those present for Mass and promptly invited him forward to concelebrate and to even give the homily. All in attendance were blessed by the joy emanating from both of these dear and gentle souls. We are so grateful to Fr. Nelson for his years of service to OLC, and for bringing us his wonderful replacement, Fr. Anthony! Here is a photo of Fr. Nelson with OLC Board member and friend, Doug Schenk.
Longtime OLC Patron becomes Consecrated Virgin
Image
Karen Bartosz used to come to OLC with her mother, many years ago, and she still very much enjoys visiting this place of "immense peace". Karen, who is a hospice nurse, spent many years in discernment of her vocation, and, through spiritual direction, discovered that she was called to become a Consecrated Virgin, something she had never heard of before. On December 5th, 2015, adorned in a beautiful vintage wedding dress, Karen was consecrated through the Archdiocese of Baltimore by Archbishop William Lori himself in a beautiful ceremony at the Basillica in Baltimore. She is the first Consecrated Virgin in the Archdiocese in about two decades and one of only around 200 in the US. Read about more about the ceremony here and about consecrated virgins here. OLC presented Karen with an embossed breviary cover in honor of the occasion, and we look forward to more visits from this gentle, humble, deeply devout friend who was blessed to be consecrated just before the official close of the Year of Consecrated Life.

Volunteer Spotlight: Chris Yockey
Chris is in his third year serving and lectoring at OLC, covering Wednesday Mass and filling in whenever needed. He grew up in a military family and lived in the Philippines and Japan before returning to his native Ho. Co. He has worked as an insurance agent at J E Schenk & Assoc. for over 14 years, and it was the Schenk brothers who first introduced Chris to OLC, where he soon became a regular Mass attendee. When head server Bob Palace approached him at the Christmas patron party about becoming a server, Chris said yes. He is actually a relatively recent convert, having formally been welcomed into the Church only four years ago after his search for a deeper relationship with God led him to discover the Catholic faith. Besides volunteering at OLC, Chris is also involved in the Men’s and Teen ACTS ministries at St. Louis, and he is the proud, devoted father of two adorable little boys, ages two years and three months. He asks for and most certainly has our prayers for his parents, that their good health may be restored. We appreciate your enthusiasm, commitment, and steady faith, Chris. Please accept our heartfelt gratitude for your service!
