Kimberly's Carats

Because amethyst was associated with wine, it was believed that wearing amethyst prevented drunkeness.

Fine amethysts have been set in religious jewelry and royal crown jewels for ages. It was once considered equal in value to ruby, emerald, and sapphire. It’s no wonder that fine amethyst adorns the fingers of bishops as well as the coronation regalia of British royalty.

Rose Gold:

In honor of February and Valentine's Day, here's some information about rose gold. Rose Gold is becoming more and more popular and is starting to become a choice for wedding jewelry.

Rose Gold was popular in Russia in the early nineteenth century when it was known as Russian Gold. Rose Gold gets its color from the amount of copper that is used in the gold alloy. Higher percentages of copper can result in red gold and lower percentages in pink. If Zinc is added to the alloy the gold will take on reddish yellow color.

Certain colored gemstones like Morganite or Kunzite which have a peachy pinkish color look fabulous in Rose Gold.
February Birthstone: Amethyst

In its purest form, quartz is colorless, but is most prized for its purple variety - Amethyst. Purple has long been considered a royal color, so it is not surprising that Amethyst has been so much in demand throughout history. Fine Amethysts are featured in the British Crown Jewels and were also a favorite of Catherine the Great and Egyptian royalty. Great thinkers like Leonardo da Vinci believed that Amethyst could dissipate evil thoughts and quicken intelligence.
