Our adorable baby Killdeer
We had our own baby bird situation at the Roswell location Mother's Day weekend.
A
Killdeer fledged from a nest in the cemetery behind the shopping center.
Its mom was nearby, calling and keeping an eye on it, but the youngster could not hop over the concrete curb behind the store. He just kept running back and forth the length of the building. On the second day of this, we were able to gently catch the little guy and boost him over the curb, while mom dive bombed us. We gave her a big handful of live mealworms and after eating most of them, she led the youngster down the hill to the safety of a retention pond. We love happy endings!

It's baby bird season!
May through August is when songbirds leave (or fledge) the nest. These youngsters cannot fly well, or at all, and often look pretty helpless. But in most cases, their parents are keeping a close watch, bringing food and encouraging them to hop to shelter and safety. The fledglings will get stronger and braver and will be flying within the week, and maybe even visiting your feeders!
