New Diamond Find

Last month another large diamond was discovered at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. The 1.73 carat brownish tint diamond was the third largest found in 2016 at the State Park near Murfreesboro, Arkansas - the only site in the U.S. where anyone can search for diamonds. Are you ready to book a flight?

Kimberly's Carats

Thousands of years ago, red garnet necklaces adorned the necks of Egypt’s pharaohs.

The term carbuncle was often used in ancient times to refer to red garnets, although it was used for almost any red stone. Carbuncle was thought to be one of the four precious stones given to King Solomon.

Gold Torc found in England

Recently a person with a metal detector uncovered a 3,000 year old Bronze Age gold torc in England. Many previously discovered torcs were much smaller and worn on the wrist. Experts speculate that this one might have been worn as a belt or used to provide extra significance to an animal like a sheep or goat that was about to be sacrificed.

The torc is made of a single bar of gold and was fashioned, twisted and burnished so that the gaps between the twists are the same. It's being called the greatest archaeological find in England in more than 100 years.

January Birthstone

Wine red is the unique color for January and fidelity is the special virtue traditionally promised to those of January birth. Sparkling garnet has been treasured since antiquity and in addition to red comes in dozens of brilliant colors but never in blue.
