Early January's winter weather brought lots of hungry birds to our feeders! This week is mild again, but many of you asked us how to better help birds during times of snow, ice and frigid temperatures. There are many things we all can do to help our bird friends through difficult times.

Weather Guards come in
several styles and colors

One effective thing you can do is place weather guards over all your hanging tube feeders, small hoppers, suet and tray feeders. Weather guards will keep their food dry and give the birds a comfortable spot to rest and feed out of the elements.

Birds need fresh, clean water every day, even in winter weather! Bird bath heaters will keep your bath from freezing, providing important water for drinking and bathing, while also protecting your clay or concrete baths from cracking.

Be generous when bird feeding - hang out more feeders, giving flocks more room, throw some seed on the ground or around brushpiles for sparrows and juncos, and put out high protein suet and mealworms. Our mealworm feeder was our most popular feeder during the snowstorm. Bluebirds, wrens, chickadees and Pine Warblers were lining up!
