Qalo Rings

At the recent IJO show we found something interesting that we can't wait to get in the store. Qalo (kay-low) silicone wedding bands. These bands are perfect for military personnel, fire, rescue, police and active outdoor people who want to wear a band but can't have one that could catch and injure them while they are working or engaging in their activities. Watch for more info on these bands when they arrive!

Water Project Update

The waterline replacement project on Caroline Street is moving along in the 600 block and we are hoping work will be completed in early March. The project will then move to the 500 block so there will still be some congestion, construction activity and maybe some blowing dust but it won't be right in front of the store. Don't let the work zone keep you from stopping in. We'd love to see you!

Kimberly's Carats

Legend has it that Poseidon gave Aquamarines to mermaids as gifts. Aquamarine is also considered to be a healing stone and the Greeks believed that Aquamarine helped sustain youthful love.

Have you heard of Ammolite?

One of the very unique gemstones that we have from time to time in the store is Ammolite.

Ammolite is a beautiful rainbow gemstone which is made from fossilized ammonites - a prehistoric mollusk. If you have ever seen a chambered nautilus shell think of that, only much larger.

While ammonites were found around the world, the conditions of the clay and silt that they fossilized in were unique in one portion of Alberta, Canada and that resulted in the rainbow colors. Gemstone quality Ammolite is only found in a small area in Alberta making it one of the rarest, if not THE rarest of gemstones.

Ammolite has been used in jewelry for some time but it is becoming more and more popular. We have some specimens of the fossilized shell in the store and we would be happy to show you and talk with you about this unique, unknown gem!

March Birthstone

Aquamarine, March's birthstone, was once referred to as "the sailor's stone". Sailors took Aquamarine with them on voyages and tossed them into the sea as gifts to Poseidon for safe voyages. Aquamarines are typically heated to improve the color. This treatment is permanent and the deep blue color is the most valuable. Major sources of Aquamarine are Brazil, Zambia, Madagascar and Nigeria.
