Another Arkansas Diamond

An Arkansas teenager hit the jackpot recently when he found a 7.44 carat diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park. The young man and his family had only been at the park for about 30 minutes when he spied the dark brown stone. About the size of a pinto bean the diamond is the 7th largest found at the park since 1972!

Colored Diamond's Color?

Have you ever wondered what gives natural colored diamonds their color? Natural blue diamonds have minute amounts of boron included in the diamond. Green diamonds are caused by radiation during formation. Brown, red and pink diamonds get their color from intense pressure and heat. Violet and purple diamonds may be caused by Hydrogen. Orange and Yellow diamonds come from the presence of Nitrogen.

Water Project Update

The project has moved to the 500 block and portions of Lafayette Boulevard. The sewer line is also being replaced in the 500 block so the block has been completely closed with detours in place. Follow the signs to get to the 600 block of Caroline Street and if parking is an issue call us so we can direct you to our employee parking area.

Kimberly's Carats

The Roman naturalist Pliny stated: “Diamond is the most valuable, not only of precious stones, but of all things in this world.”

The world’s love of diamonds had its start in India. Some historians estimate that India was trading in diamonds as early as the fourth century BC. Indian diamonds found their way to Western Europe in caravans that traveled to Venice’s medieval markets. By the 1400s, diamonds were becoming fashionable accessories for Europe’s elite.

Antwerp: Diamond Capital of the World

It's said that if you want diamonds you should go to Antwerp, Belgium. Since 1447 Antwerp has been synonymous with the best crafted diamonds. Recent estimates have said that as many as 80% of the world's rough diamonds and more than 50% of the world's polished diamonds pass through Antwerp.

We have made several trips to select diamonds for our customers at 6 of the diamond houses in Antwerp. When we visit we have access to any and all the diamonds that are in-stock on that particular day or days. Since no two diamonds are alike, Nancy has the chance to sort through the parcels looking for the perfect diamond that speaks to her. It's the ultimate treasure hunt!

Even when we are not able to travel to Antwerp we still have direct access to these diamonds through the working relationships we have with the Antwerp offices. This allows us to get you the perfect diamond right from the source!

April Birthstone

April's birthstone is Diamond. Diamond is the only gem made of a single element: It is typically about 99.95 percent carbon. The other 0.05 percent can include one or more trace elements, which are atoms that aren’t part of the diamond’s essential chemistry. Some trace elements can influence its color or crystal shape. Diamond forms under high temperature and pressure conditions that exist only about 100 miles beneath the earth’s surface. Diamond’s carbon atoms are bonded in essentially the same way in all directions. Another mineral, graphite, also contains only carbon, but its formation process and crystal structure are very different. Graphite is so soft that you can write with it, while diamond is so hard that you can only scratch it with another diamond.
