Located in NW Indiana, near the town of New Carlisle between Lake Michigan and a huge Beech Tree
~ May 29, 2017 ~

Rain or... rain, the rhododemdrums shine.
As I sit down to begin the end-of-May newsletter, the sky opens up and pours. No matter, we are staying close to home this month watching the weather from the studio. We are completing wholesale commitments, most of which we received while showing Steve's work at American Craft Council Show in Baltimore this February.  Being home for the entire month of May (a change from our usual on-the-road schedule) we experience the dynamic changes in nature between early to late springtime.

We bask in the colors of blooming rhododendrons which surround our house and studio. The scent of our lilacs blow through the studio's open windows. And, for the first time in several years, I make time to prepare and tend the garden almost daily... at least between rain bursts.

Kettle by Steven Skinner, stoneware with porcelain inlay.
This year, Steve was selected to participate in the Artist Preview Event at the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. Such an invitation gives Steve the opportunity to present his work to a broader audience.

The humbling aspect of such an invitation is sharing the evening with artists we've met at other art fairs and whose work we highly respect. Two of these acquaintances, Jennifer McCardy and Ellen Silberlicht, are part of the Artist Preview. They are both ceramic artists who whose work we find intriguing. I've included links to their websites, and it's worth a look.

After Cherry Creek, we continue our westward road trip. We will visit my father who lives in Paonia, on the western slope of the Colorado Rockies. Felix is a DJ at be a KVNF Public Radio DJ (Stop Time), and Chair of the Rotary Club's Scholarship Committee. Felix turns 99 this year and we will CELEBRATE. He's a vibrant citizen of the world.
