Choosing the right kite for the conditions
Every kite offers a different flying experience. In light to medium winds, diamonds, deltas and dragon kites fly the best. In stronger winds stickless Parafoil kites and box kites will fly better.
Pick the perfect day for flying
Winds that are too light or strong are difficult to fly in. Use a flag to gauge the wind. Most kites fly best in winds that range between around 5-25 mph. Medium winds are the most fun for kite flying. Never ever fly when it is raining or lightening. Damp kite lines can attract the electricity in clouds and you may get hurt.
Pick the right place to fly your kite
It is just as important to choose the right place to let your kite soar in the sky. An open area is the best place to fly your kite. Choose a place that is up hill and doesn't have any trees or buildings around.
Launching your kite
Stand with your back to the wind to launch your kite. Hold your kite up to catch the wind with one arm. The line should be let out only as fast as the wind lifts the kite with your other arm. One of the hardest way to launch a kite is by running.
Flying your kite
Keep your kite flying evenly, maintain a steady line tension. You can change your kites direction by letting out the line.
Flying with other kites
If your line gets tangled with another kite flyers line, hold the line steady and walk to the other flyer. This will make the tangle move down the lines so that it can be easily untangled.
