Waterline Project Update

It looks like the sewer line replacement work in the 500 block of Caroline Street is completed and work is progressing on the waterline replacement. We hope it will go quickly and the project will move out of the 500 block soon. Thank you for your patience and for making the effort to come and see us during the construction. Remember, if parking on the street is difficult to find, the first three hours in the Wolfe Street parking garage are free!

Kimberly's Carats

In ancient times it was thought that the wearer of a ruby was blessed with health, wealth, wisdom and outstanding success in affairs of the heart. The wearer also acquired the ability to live in peace with his enemies. In some places Ruby was thought to give the wearer invulnerability.

Southwest Jewelry

July is the month for vacations and many people travel to the American Southwest. While there they often find beautiful Navajo turquoise and silver jewelry. The Navajo have a rich history of jewelry making and silversmithing with rich jewelry designs attracting tourists and jewelry-lovers alike. One of the most recognizable elements of Navajo and southwest tribal jewelry is turquoise. With its beautiful blend of blue, green, white, and the occasional rivulet of brown, turquoise reflects the colors of the natural world. For the Navajo, turquoise represents happiness, luck, and health. The Navajo learned silversmithing from the Spanish, initially melting silver from coins and flatware. By the 1880s, Navajo jewelers were setting turquoise in silver and soon after were incorporating coral and other semi-precious stones in their silver jewelry. The result is beautiful heirloom quality jewelry that can be enjoyed and handed down for generations.

July Birthstone

July's birthstone is Ruby. Rubies come in many shades of red. Sometimes people refer to the finest pure red color as "Burma Ruby" or "pigeon's blood". Fine quality rubies larger than 3 carats are very scarce. While some of the finest rubies have been found in Southeast Asia, other regions such as Madagascar in Africa also yield some stunning Rubies.
