Kimberly's Carats
Citrine is the top selling yellow to orange gemstone. Natural Citrine is rare and before modern gemology it was often confused with Topaz. Most Citrine today is the result of heat treatment of Amethyst.
The royal court in Portugal celebrates the discovery of Imperial Topaz in 1768. The ancient Greeks believed that Topaz gave them strength.

Downtown Holiday Open House
All the trick or treating is finished and we are rapidly speeding towards another holiday season.
The annual Fredericksburg Downtown Holiday Open House will be on Saturday and Sunday, November 11th and 12th. Holiday spirit will be alive on the streets of downtown during this annual kickoff to this festive season. Decorations will be up, carols and smells will fill the air and the jolly old elf will probably be found strolling the streets.
As usual, we will be participating and will have some holiday goodies to eat as well as some goodies for everyone to look at and try on and take home!
Please plan to join us for the fun. We can't wait to have you help us start the holiday season.
Holiday Hours: We will be posting more about this in our December newsletter, online and through facebook and other media but we will have extended hours during December.
Also, this year Christmas Eve (December 24th) falls on Sunday and after much thought we have decided to be closed that day so that our staff can enjoy the day with their families and take part in activities at their church or throughout the area. We'll be happy to stay for as long as it takes on Saturday December 23rd to take care of your last minute shopping needs. We'll be posting more about this but we wanted to let you know that this year don't put off your last minute shopping to the very last minute.

November Birthstones
November has two birthstones, Citrine and Topaz.
Citrine is known as the "healing quartz". This golden gemstone is said to support vitality and health while encouraging and guiding hope, energy and warmth within the wearer. Citrine can be found in a variety of shades ranging from pastel yellow to dark brownish orange. It is one of the most affordable and plentiful gemstones. Citrine is found most frequently in Brazil, Bolivia, and Spain.
Topaz is available in a rich rainbow of colors. Prized for several thousand years, all yellow gems in antiquity were called topaz. During the Middle Ages topaz was thought to drive away sadness, bring wisdom, bestow courage, and even cure insomnia. The most prized color of topaz is called Imperial topaz after the Russian Czars of the 1800s and features a magnificent orange body color with pinkish undertones. Topaz also comes in yellow, pink, purple, orange, and the many popular blue tones.
