Nesting season is in full swing! But not all birds nest in trees. Luke Theodorou photographed this Killdeer nest in a school parking lot in Dahlonega this weekend. The eggs/chicks are perfectly camouflaged among the gravel. Watch your step, these photos were taken only one day apart!

Many other birds have already built nests in trees, bushes and vine tangles. Be careful when pruning this time of year, it's easy to miss an inconspicuous nest. Also, keep an eye out for fledglings when cutting the grass or trimming weeds.

Spring is such an exciting time in the bird world! Along with our local species nesting and raising young, millions of neotropical migrants are passing through and/or arriving on their breeding grounds now. Watch for colorful Indigo Buntings, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, warblers, orioles, tanagers, vireos and much more! Birdbaths are a great place to spot migrants as they stop to rest and refresh.

Our friend, Janice Neitzel, lives in Gulf Shores, AL and hosts dozens of migratory birds in her yard. Above she captured an Indigo Bunting, Prothonotary Warbler and a Summer Tanager in her water feature!

Indigo Buntings, Gray Catbirds and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks often come to feeders for seed or suet. Tanagers, orioles and some warblers will come in for sliced watermelon, oranges, grapes, mealworms and suet nuggets and kibbles. What's visiting your yard? We'd love to hear from you!
