If you have been in the Phoenix area this year very long, you may have noticed that it has been a bit cooler and wetter than most. Many of us who live here year-round or have been here for a while, welcome these changes in weather with open arms. These chilly temps allow us to adorn a new wardrobe that may include a sweater, boots or maybe even a jacket. These assorted articles of clothing haven't been released from closet prison since the last time our travels led us north to Flagstaff or we flew east to see relatives in Illinois. We have also seen a lot more moisture than we usually experience, but in the Desert Southwest rain is always welcome! As a Valley native, I still catch myself running out to the patio to see a glimpse of the wet stuff when I hear its pitter-patter on our roof tiles.
As much as we welcome the moisture, we know that there are a myriad of folks running as hard and as fast as they can to escape this type of weather and to you, we say we're sorry, but we didn't have a whole lot to do with it.

What happens every Spring?
Last Thursday, 2/21, was the scheduled opening day of the Cactus League's 2019 Season with the first game between the Oakland A's and Seattle Mariners at Mesa's Hohokam Stadium. The operative word in the previous sentence was "scheduled". For the first time in my memory, the opening day game was canceled. This cancellation was because of a massive winter storm that dropped over 1 1/2 inches of rain in the valley and over 3 1/2 feet of snow in the higher elevations. This storm even commanded the city of Scottsdale to break out their snow plow! When we saw that report on the news, Debe and I said in chorus, "I didn't know any towns in the Phoenix area had snow plows!!!" I shot the above picture only a few miles from our house after the several day storm had subsided a bit and the clouds began to disperse. I believe it was the excellent reflection of last weeks' wild weather and perfectly showcased the beautiful place in which we live. The shot captures our Sonoran Desert giving way to the snow covered Weaver Mountains, home of Yarnell Hill.
Again we're sorry that those raindrops may have put the kibosh on your round of golf or a road trip to Sedona, but the good news is this storm headed northeast and we should be back into those warmer sunny 70 degree temps this week!

We love the annual Spring Training Season because it draws so many of you from all over the country and beyond, that come here for the season's 34 days fun activities and games. Arizona Quilts is strategically located between the Peoria Sports Complex and the Surprise Stadium and somehow before or after games, throngs of folks make it to our store generally sporting their favorite team's gear!  In celebration, we have brought in the above Wilmington Prints 7th Inning Stretch collection just in time for all those baseball fans "hitting" our doors! I just happen to be one of those fans and at my request, the first larger quilt Racheal made as a store sample was the above baseball themed quilt that hangs over my desk in our office!

We sure look forward to seeing you this season and hope you will come by more than once to help make yours and our season be a home run!

Happy Cactus League Quilting!
