And Sew On... August 5th, 2019

We Survived Live!

If you read last week's "And Sew On" newsletter,
we made our big announcement about participating in the
Jaftex Quilt Shop VideoTour Challenge.
I will have to admit that Wednesday, the day of our Facebook Live video, was a long day! We started with a dry run through the store going over the general concept and camera angles. Next, after several weeks of cogitation, planning, bullet-point notes in hand and a deep breath, we went Live! Our video was rolling along swimmingly even the popping of our party confetti poppers while announcing the store's location in Surprise, AZ. Then I received 3 consecutive phone calls on my video camera, aka phone... OOOPSY not good! Not only did the call alerts mostly block the screen, but after reviewing the video, our eyes were going crazy as the video shook rapidly... another not good! Between practice and our actual Live we had exhausted our supply of party poppers so off to the party store I went to replenish the poppers. With a new supply of poppers and another big breath, we went Live again, this time successfully I might add! Now with a note to self... ALWAYS put your phone on Do Not Disturb before starting a Live video!
Since Wednesday when we shot our video, over 1400 people have reviewed our Live and that's just from people who are viewing it from our FB page! Because of the myriad of shop's submitting videos, Jaftex is posting the videos in the order they received them. Our video hit Scott Fortunoff's FB page on Sunday evening. We want to THANK all of you that have participated thus far and just remind you that the contest is based on the total amount of views of the video. If you have viewed it already and can bring yourself to watching it again or a portion there of, that would be helpful but the most helpful thing would be to share our video to your page and friends to help reach those people who wouldn't normally see us.
Here are those Facebook links agin to the
Arizona Quilts page and Scott Fortunoff's page.

Check out these 3 new collections! The Winter Whimsy Flannel and the Start Your Engines cotton are both by Henry Glass and we mentioned them in our FB Live and Scott also mentioned both of these lines on his rollout of new products last week from New York. One positive outcome of having to re-do our video was that Winter Whimsy arrived in our receiving area so we were able to get it in the video! It is a super fun flannel Christmas collection along with the cool Nascar themed Start Your Engines! Our 3rd new selection this
week is the Ombre' Confetti by Moda which includes these cute Jr. Jelly Rolls!
We hope you drop by - these are worth a look!

Color Theory for Quilters w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Aug. 22nd from 10am-4pm. The biggest obstacle quilters often have is how to select fabrics. Deb will show you how to build a color story. You will learn the importance of hue, intensity, value and shade. You will create your own color wheel with fabric, helping you become a pro at choosing the right fabrics for your special project.

How fun would it be to create an entire piece of art with fabric you created? You will start with a solid white fabric and go crazy with paint, stencils and more. Learn the different mediums to use for exquisite color on fabric. The sky's the limit!

Fiber Arts-Embellishing Your Projects w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Sept. 5 from 10am-4pm. Come and have fun adding some texture with fibers. Deb will show you how to add different fibers like sari yarn, rattail, thread painting and more to create your piece of art.

Take a Stand Bag w/ Nanette will begin on Fri., Sept. 6 for 2 sessions from 9:30am-3:30pm. This tote is available in two sizes. Either size can be used as a companion to the Running with Scissors Tool Case as a stand. The larger tote will hold an iron or small sewing machine. Bag has lots of pockets with zippers and opens wide for easy access!
Image
Fiber Arts-Thread Play w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Sept. 12th from 10am-4pm. This is a great technique class where you will learn how to create images with thread, sew through layers of fusible web, add highlights, shadows and dimensions to quilts. Deb will help you gain confidence about free motion quilting, while adding color and design with thread!
Image
Folded Star w/ Deb will be held Thurs., Sept. 19th from 10am-4pm. Folded Star is a bit like fabric origami! The pattern is created from folding and layering different fabrics. This technique was common back in the '80's and is making a comeback! It's so simple to do, yet looks great using modern fabrics.
Image
Poppins Bag w/ Nanette begins on Fri., Sept. 20th for 2 sessions from 9:30am-3:30pm. This large zipper topped bag is great to hold all kinds of wonderful things! It is about 14" tall and 18" wide and has pockets inside and out to keep everything organized. Metal stays come with the pattern to help this bag keep its shape. It can be made from a focus fabric or 2 1/2" strips. You might also be interested in making one of the smaller versions of the Poppins bag. You are free to choose the size!

Free-Motion Quilting 101 w/ Carrie will be held on Sat., Sept. 21 from 10am-3pm. Join Carrie and learn the basics of free-motion quilting on your domestic sewing machine: from choosing thread, batting, and needles to stitching on your quilt top. Carrie will guide you through a variety of designs, such as stippling, loops flames, etc. Learn free-motion fundamentals to create beautiful quilts while having free-motion fun!

Revealing the Mystery of the One Block Wonder w/ Deb begins on Thurs., Sept. 26 from 10am-4pm. Though it looks complicated, this spectacular kaleidoscope quilt is easy to sew: the fabric does all the work! These beautiful quilts are made using only ONE print fabric for the body of the quilt and border - or you can use a different coordinating print for the border. Deb will teach you her time saving tips and tricks to create this "seemingly challenging" quilt.

As always, we thank you for your friendship & your business.

Stay safe and happy quilting!
