Reflecting on Veterans Day!
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Both Debe's and my dad's served in the military and we are proud of that heritage both of our families carry. We don't know much about my father-in-law's service - other than he was a cook in the Army. On the other hand, my brother and I always cherished the times my dad shared about his time in the service. These stories gave my bother and I an affinity toward all the branches of service and most of our imaginary exploits were about being war heroes. Although my dad joined the Air Force in 1946, missing WWII by a year, his stories of peacetime antics kept my brother, myself and an occasional friend, on the edge of our seats. After completing basic training in Biloxi, Mississippi, pictured above - lower left, he was then stationed at Williams Field in East Mesa, thus beginning the Clarkson Clan's history in Arizona.
On 11/11/2000 which just happened to be Veterans Day, my dad went to see his Lord, thus putting the preverbial icing on the cake and reminded us once more of his service to the country he loved!
I'm sure many of you have stories either personally or of those close to you that extol the military life from a current perspective to days gone by and to you we say...

Color Theory for Quilters w/ Deb will be held Thurs., Nov. 14 from 9am-12:30pm. The biggest obstacle that quilters run up against is how to pick fabrics. Deb will show you how to build a color story for your next project. She will begin with a basic overview of the color wheel, learning the importance of “hue,” “intensity,” “value,” and “shade.” You will create your own color wheel with fabric, helping you become a pro at picking out the right fabrics for your special project.

Thread Play w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Nov. 14 from 1pm-4:30pm. A great techniques class where the student learns how Deb creates images with thread, sew through layers of fusible web, add highlights, shadows and dimension to quilts. Deb has lots of tricks that help you feel more confident about doing free motion quilting, breaking all the rules while adding color and design with thread.

Running with Scissors Bag w/ Nanette begins on Mon., Nov. 18 from 9:30am-3:30pm for 2 sessions. This great little tool tote will hold all of your sewing and quilting equipment from scissors to rotary cutter, tape measure, thread, rulers and more. It even has a handy little pressing pad. It measures about 9"x12" and zips all the way around to keep those important tools in place while traveling to classes. It is made with fabric, vinyl and mesh and can be customized to meet your needs.

Take a Stand Tote w/ Nanette begins on Mon., Dec. 2nd from 9:30am-3:30pm. This tote is available in two sizes. Either size can be used as a companion to the Running with Scissors Tool Case as a stand. The larger tote will hold an iron or small sewing machine. Bag has lots of pockets with zippers and opens wide for easy access!

Ruler Work 101 w/ Carrie will be held on Fri., Dec. 6 from 10am-3pm. Have you ever wondered how to use quilting rulers? Join Carrie as she demystifies ruler work. You will create a sampler with a variety of designs using 2 different rulers. Learn the basics as well as how to audition your designs! This class will give you the skills to create a block, background & border designs using ruler work.So much fun!

Stupendous Stitching w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Dec. 12th from 10am-4pm. Create stunning textured fabric art to display on your walls,
use in home décor and make into fabulous accessories. Combining hand embroidery, beading, decorative machine stitching and couching, this technique is fun and addicting. The fabric choices will help you make this an exciting and fun fabric art piece!

Create Your Own Collage w/ Gail begins on Fri., Dec. 13th from 12pm-4pm. Your imagination will shine as you create YOUR OWN collage with the SUBJECT you want. JNQ 5 Day Quilt Camp w/ Kelly will be held Mon.-Fri., Jan. 6th-10th. Join JNQ Certified Instructor Kelly Grant for a 5 day retreat at Arizona Quilts. This relaxed open format quilt camp will enable you to work on any Quiltworx pattern including the TOM patterns. The fee includes 5 days of classes and lunch each day. Attendance is limited to allow for lots of one-on-one help. Come and join us!

Cactus Collage Sampler w/ Gail will be held on Sat., Jan 11th from 10am-4pm. This 11-panel cactus pattern is great. Laura Heine created a fun project. It takes time, but is well worth the effort. In this class you will begin to coordinate color using your imagination at all times. We will have lots of fun while exploring this desert!

ABC's of Quilting w/ Susan will begin on Wed., Jan., 15th from 9am-12pm for 5 sessions. This is a great class for beginners or those who might want to freshen up their skills. Even if you have taken her class & would like to re-visit this, stop in and Susan can customize something just for you!

Fiber Arts-Create One of a Kind Fabric w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Jan. 16th from 10am-4pm. Learn to create your one-of-a-kind fabric with specialty paints. How fun would it be to create an entire piece of art with fabric you created? You will start with a solid white fabric and go crazy with paint, stencils and more. Learn the different mediums to use for exquisite color on fabric. The sky's the limit!

Cattail Mixer w/ Kelly begins on Thurs., Jan. 23rd from 10am-4pm for 4 sessions. This class will cover a variety patterns that have applique, and with the small class size, you will receive lots of helpful hints and tips. Patterns include Basket of Rainbows (new release pattern), Rainforest Blossom, Cattails in the Meadows and some new patterns to be release soon. This class will cover machine applique embroidery as well as needle turn and raw edge applique. Taught by JNQ Cert. Inst. Kelly Grant.

Wedding Ring Series w/ Kelly begins on Fri., Jan. 24 for 4 sessions. This class is always a big favorite, and with the small class size you will receive lots of helpful hints and tips. With so many different patterns and sizes to choose from it is the perfect introduction to the fun of wedding ring quilts. Patterns include Flowers for My Wedding Ring, Grandma's Wedding Ring, Bali Wedding Star, Gemstone and Bali Bedrunner. Come and have fun in this 4 part class taught by JNQ Cert. Inst., Kelly Grant.
