On this day we honor 2 of our greatest presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. These 2 American hero's helped shape our wonderful country and we are blessed to have such amazing leaders to be a part of our illustrious history!
The other event that we celebrate this week, at least in Arizona, is the beginning of the Cactus League "Spring Training" baseball season, when this Friday 2/21/20 at 1:05 PM you will hear those immortal words being
shouted above the crowd ... "Play Ball!"
This year our own Surprise Stadium boasts of hosting the only opening day game between the Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals, with most of the other teams seeing action on Saturday, 2/22/20.
Over the next 33 days there will be 15 teams playing at 10 stadiums throughout the entire Valley of the Sun in their preparation for the MLB Opening Day on Thursday, March 26th.
Here at Arizona Quilts we look so forward to this time of year when our store is bustling with a steady stream of baseball fans/quilters from all over the country and beyond. These folks are generally sporting t-shirts, caps, and jerseys with their favorite team's logo proudly and prominently
displayed for all to see!
For many of you this is your time to thaw out, enjoy a few games, drop by our store and then try to figure out how to get all you new found treasures in a suitcase without setting off weight alarms ... such a fun problem to have!

Revealing the Mystery of the One Block Wonder w/ Deb begins on Mon., Feb. 17th from 10am-4pm for 2 sessions. (Session 2 is Mon., Mar. 23rd). Though it looks complicated, this spectacular kaleidoscope quilt is easy to sew: the fabric does all the work! These beautiful quilts are made using only ONE print fabric for the body of the quilt and border - or you can use a different coordinating print for the border. Deb will teach you her time saving tips and tricks to create this "seemingly challenging" quilt.

ABC's of Quilting w/ Susan will begin on Wed., Feb., 19th from 9am-12pm for 5 sessions. This is a great class for beginners or those who might want to freshen up their skills. Even if you have taken her class & would like to re-visit this, stop in and Susan can customize something just for you!

Cheesecloth Art w/ Deb will begin on Mon., Feb. 24th from 10am-4pm for 2 sessions. (Session 2 is Mon., Mar. 9th). Imagine using nothing but cheesecloth and thread to create a masterpiece of your own! This class will teach you how to do just that. Layering different kinds of cheesecloth, dyed cheesecloth and more, you will create a portrait that is unique!

JNQ 4 Day Quilt Camp w/ Kelly will be held Wed.-Sat., Feb. 26th-29th from 10am-4:45pm. Join JNQ Certified Instructor Kelly Grant for a 4 day retreat at Arizona Quilts. This relaxed open format quilt camp will enable you to work on any Quiltworx pattern including the TOM patterns. Attendance is limited to allow for lots of one-on-one help. Come and join us!

Running with Scissors Tool Tote w/ Nanette begins on Mon., Mar. 2 from 9:30am-3:30pm for 2 sessions. (Session 2 is Mon., Mar. 23rd). This great little tool tote will hold all of your sewing and quilting equipment from scissors to rotary cutter, tape measure, thread, rulers and more. It even has a handy little pressing pad. It measures about 9"x12" and zips all the way around to keep those important tools in place while traveling to classes. It is made with fabric, vinyl and mesh and can be customized to meet your needs.

Fabric Bowls & Boxes w/ Deb will be held on Tues., Mar. 3rd from 10 am-4pm. What a great gift to give! You will learn how to create these sturdy bowls and boxes, embellish them with beads & yarns and make a special piece for you or to give as a gift for your friend!

Create Your Own Collage w/ Gail begins on Sat., Mar. 7th from 10am-3:30pm for 2 sessions. (Session 2 is Sat., Mar. 28th). Your imagination will shine as you create YOUR OWN collage with the SUBJECT you want. The prep and 1st part of the class will prepare your picture and the 2nd part will be having you bring your figure to life! Join in and see all of the great ideas!

A great techniques class where the student learns how Deb creates images with thread, sew through layers of fusible web, add highlights, shadows and dimension to quilts. Deb has lots of tricks that help you feel more confident about doing free motion quilting, breaking all the rules while adding color and design with thread.

Creating Fabric Beads w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Mar. 26th from 1:30pm-4:30pm. Make your own beads for jewelry or mixed-media embellishment using fabric, glass beads, decorative threads, acrylic medium, paint and wire-all your personal style-bright, earthy, sparkly, elegant, muted, etc. Make about 10 beads in class and be inspired to make variations of your own!

Desert Sky w/ Kelly will be held on Fri., Mar. 27th from 10am-4pm. The Desert Sky is designed as a beginner pattern to introduce quilters to paper piecing. The project is fast and fun employs simple cutting techniques, and is an affordable and fun way to jump into your first paper piecing project. It is meant to make those new to the process find confidence, understanding, and success. Taught by JNQ Cert. Inst., Kelly Grant.

Finishing Your Collage w/ Gail will be held on Sat., Mar. 28th from 10am-2pm. So you need to complete your wonderful Collage??? No matter what stage of the project you are in, you are welcome to come and begin to finish your work. It may be an audition for the background, advice on where to go from what you have, or a play date needed to go farther, please join us for a fun afternoon….along with some Show and Tell!

Fiber Arts-Create One of a Kind Fabric w/ Deb will be held on Mon., Mar. 30th from 10am-4pm. Learn to create your one-of-a-kind fabric with specialty paints. How fun would it be to create an entire piece of art with fabric you created? You will start with a solid white fabric and go crazy with paint, stencils and more. Learn the different mediums to use for exquisite color on fabric. The sky's the limit!

Take a Stand Bag w/ Nanette begins on Tues. Mar.31st from 9:30am-3:30pm for 2 sessions. (Session 2 is Tues., Apr. 7th). This tote is available in two sizes. Either size can be used as a companion to the Running with Scissors Tool Case as a stand. The larger tote will hold an iron or small sewing machine. Bag has lots of pockets with zippers and opens wide for easy access!

Walking Foot w/ Carrie will be held on Sat., Apr. 4th from 10am-3pm. It's time to get your walking foot out of the ditch! Join Carrie as she shares her favorite quilting tool: The Walking Foot. You will make a six-patch quilt sampler. You will learn the basics of starting and stopping quilt lines, how to plan stitching paths that minimize back tracking, marking methods, as well as a variety of unique designs, all with your walking foot! No free motion allowed!

Fiber Arts - Embellishing Your Projects w/ Deb will be held Mon., Apr. 6th from 10am-4pm. Come and have fun adding some texture with fibers. Deb will show you how to add different fibers like sari yarn, rattail, thread painting and more to create your piece of art.
