Whether you live here, work here, or are just visiting the Phoenix Metropolitan area, its vastness can become abruptly apparent as soon as you hop on a freeway, interstate highway or even our city streets.
"Getting out amongst them" can be a harrowing experience that may invoke sweaty palms, dilated pupils, and heart palpitations even to a seasoned road warrier like myself ... hmmm maybe this is one of the contributing factors to my heart attack last year! For me, I travel through at least 4 different cities and log almost 85 miles a day in my commute to my regular job, so I am acutely aware of what traveling this Valley entails.
According to the 2018 census, Maricopa County was deemed the fastest growing county in the US by adding more than 200 people a day to its population which makes this stress on our roads very understandable.
For many of you, just the thought of driving beyond your neighborhood Starbucks can increase your anxiety to unsafe levels.
At Arizona Quilts we are here to help and let me suggest to you how.
Come with me to that quiet spot in your home or RV and you say, " Alexa, find me a quilt shop." As any obedient voice-activated computer should do, Alexa finds Arizona Quilts as a destination. Considering your abode is in Apache Junction, a mere 65 miles away from our store, that same wave of anxiety floods over you again. Just like the ladies seen above, there is one solution ... Road Trip! I'm sure you could find a few other quilters from your guild, group or hood to get in a van or bus with a professional driver and head to the "Wild, Wild, West" on a fabric safari! Even if your group is just 3 or 4 folks, appoint a captain with nerves of steel to pilot your ship with a navigator by their side and you can embark on your fabric trip through the cement jungle! We have had the pleasure of hosting several groups this year and always enjoy seeing the smiling faces as they disembark their ship to explore our
huge selection of fabric, kits, notions, and specialty items!
Whether your safari is more localized or from beyond the farthest reaches of Maricopa County, we sure hope we are a part of your next fabric exhibition!

This relaxed open format quilt camp will enable you to work on any Quiltworx pattern including the TOM patterns. Attendance is limited to allow for lots of one-on-one help. Come and join us!

Fiber Arts-Thread Play w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Mar. 26th from 9am-1pm. A great techniques class where the student learns how Deb creates images with thread, sew through layers of fusible web, add highlights, shadows and dimension to quilts. Deb has lots of tricks that help you feel more confident about doing free motion quilting, breaking all the rules while adding color and design with thread.

Creating Fabric Beads w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Mar. 26th from 1:30pm-4:30pm. Make your own beads for jewelry or mixed-media embellishment using fabric, glass beads, decorative threads, acrylic medium, paint and wire-all your personal style-bright, earthy, sparkly, elegant, muted, etc. Make about 10 beads in class and be inspired to make variations of your own!

Desert Sky w/ Kelly will be held on Fri., Mar. 27th from 10am-4pm. The Desert Sky is designed as a beginner pattern to introduce quilters to paper piecing. The project is fast and fun employs simple cutting techniques, and is an affordable and fun way to jump into your first paper piecing project. It is meant to make those new to the process find confidence, understanding, and success. Taught by JNQ Cert. Inst., Kelly Grant.

Finishing Your Collage w/ Gail will be held on Sat., Mar. 28th from 10am-2pm. So you need to complete your wonderful Collage??? No matter what stage of the project you are in, you are welcome to come and begin to finish your work. It may be an audition for the background, advice on where to go from what you have, or a play date needed to go farther, please join us for a fun afternoon….along with some Show and Tell!

Fiber Arts-Create One of a Kind Fabric w/ Deb will be held on Mon., Mar. 30th from 10am-4pm. Learn to create your one-of-a-kind fabric with specialty paints. How fun would it be to create an entire piece of art with fabric you created? You will start with a solid white fabric and go crazy with paint, stencils and more. Learn the different mediums to use for exquisite color on fabric. The sky's the limit!

Take a Stand Bag w/ Nanette begins on Tues. Mar.31st from 9:30am-3:30pm for 2 sessions. (Session 2 is Tues., Apr. 7th). This tote is available in two sizes. Either size can be used as a companion to the Running with Scissors Tool Case as a stand. The larger tote will hold an iron or small sewing machine. Bag has lots of pockets with zippers and opens wide for easy access!

ABC's of Quilting w/ Susan will begin on Wed., Apr. 1st from 9am-12pm for 5 sessions. This is a great class for beginners or those who might want to freshen up their skills. Even if you have taken her class & would like to re-visit this, stop in and Susan can customize something just for you!

Walking Foot w/ Carrie will be held on Sat., Apr. 4th from 10am-3pm. It's time to get your walking foot out of the ditch! Join Carrie as she shares her favorite quilting tool: The Walking Foot. You will make a six-patch quilt sampler. You will learn the basics of starting and stopping quilt lines, how to plan stitching paths that minimize back tracking, marking methods, as well as a variety of unique designs, all with your walking foot! No free motion allowed!

Fiber Arts - Embellishing Your Projects w/ Deb will be held Mon., Apr. 6th from 10am-4pm. Come and have fun adding some texture with fibers. Deb will show you how to add different fibers like sari yarn, rattail, thread painting and more to create your piece of art.

Cork Crossbody Bag w/ Nanette will be held on Mon., Apr. 13th from 9:30am-3:30pm. Have you ever sewn with cork? This class gives you the opportunity to try sewing with cork while not needing to use a large amount. This versatile little bag can be made in 2 sizes and will hold just about everything you need including your cell phone and a small wallet. It can be made with all cork, all fabric or a combination of the two.

Fiber Arts-Finishing Your Fiber Arts Project w/ Deb will be held Thurs., Apr. 16th from 9am-12:30pm. Looking to finish your Fiber Arts project? This class is for you! Come and get the guidance you need to complete your project! Grab your Embellishing project, Stupendous Stitching, Cheesecloth, etc. and let's get it done! You must have been a previous student in one of Deb's classes. We will NOT be painting in class.

Color Theory w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., Apr. 16th from 1pm-4:30pm. The biggest obstacle that quilters run up against is how to pick fabrics. Deb will show you how to build a color story for your next project. She will begin with a basic overview of the color wheel, learning the importance of “hue,” “intensity,” “value,” and “shade.” You will create your own color wheel with fabric, helping you become a pro at picking out the right fabrics for your special project.

Fiber Arts-Mellow Meadow Owl w/ Deb will be held on Mon., Apr. 20th from 10am-4pm. Relaxing in his favorite field, this barn owl looks completely relaxed while posing for his portrait in fabric. Adding Fiber Arts will make this piece a one-of-a-kind. We will be adding beads, feathers and paint.
