And Sew On... June 1st,  2020

Celebrating with ...
"Surprise"

Image

When Governor Ducey's executive order expired last month, it was no "Surprise" that our fair city was eager to safely get back to business.
Over the last 3 1/2 weeks, it has been a real treat to see a crescendo of folks venturing out of their domiciles to make that attempt to return to some normalcy of life. We have been honored to hear from several of you that Arizona Quilts was their first excursion out in over 2 months, Wow!

In the week preceding Memorial Day, our new friend Kris, from The City of Surprise's Economic Development Department, stopped in to see how things were going. After a quick walk around our store, she asked one of our team members if she could talk with the owner. Considering that Debe was helping someone at the register, she rang me in the office. As I emerged from the catacombs (our office) Miss Kris introduced herself and asked how things were going. We chatted briefly and then she got to the crux of her visit. The City of Surprise's Economic Development Department was very ingeniously sponsoring "Virtual" grand re-opening ribbon cutting celebrations and wanted to know if we were interested in participating. After consulting with the team, we all agreed that this would be a fun way to help get the word out and promote our stores re-opening. By either clicking the picture or the link below you can see the Flickr video loop of our ceremonial ribbon-cutting,  including a confetti toss for no extra charge. I have also attached the link to the Economic Development Department's Facebook page that has a myriad of local merchants that are now "Open for Business"!
I'm sure they like us would and do truly appreciate your supporting the local economy, especially in these difficult times!
THANK YOU again for your support!

P.S.
I had penned most of this newsletter before seeing the disturbing images of last week's events. Our hearts are heavy as our country and even our neighboring cities have experienced tremendous upheaval and pain.
Just as we had started to emerge from a global pandemic, we have been thrust into the most chaotic situation that I have seen in my lifetime.
We encourage you to join with us to pray for wisdom to be granted to our leaders and peace and unity in our country.

It can be made with all cork, all fabric or a combination of the two.

You must have been a previous student in one of Deb's classes. We will NOT be painting in class.

Color Theory w/ Deb will be held on Thurs., June 18th from 1pm-4:30pm. The biggest obstacle that quilters run up against is how to pick fabrics. Deb will show you how to build a color story for your next project. She will begin with a basic overview of the color wheel, learning the importance of “hue,” “intensity,” “value,” and “shade.” You will create your own color wheel with fabric, helping you become a pro at picking out the right fabrics for your special project.

Revealing the Mystery of the One Block Wonder w/ Deb begins Thurs., July 9th for 2 sessions (2nd session is July 30th). Though it looks complicated, this spectacular kaleidoscope quilt is easy to sew: the fabric does all the work! These beautiful quilts are made using only ONE print fabric for the body of the quilt and border - or you can use a different coordinating print for the border. Deb will teach you her time saving tips and tricks to create this "seemingly challenging" quilt.
Image
Walking Foot 101 w/ Carrie will be held on Sat., July 18th from 10am-3pm. It's time to get your walking foot out of the ditch! Join Carrie as she shares her favorite quilting tool: The Walking Foot.
