It looks like we will be unable to host our annual Hummingbird Banding Event at Smith-Gilbert Gardens as a public event this year due to COVID restrictions by the City of Kennesaw who own the property.

We are still planning an online banding demonstration from the gardens on a much smaller scale on September 10th. Make sure to follow our Facebook and Instagram pages for upcoming details!

Hi, BirdWatchers!

Even though summer is almost almost over, we are still getting in fun, new merchandise for your home and garden. Birdbaths, kinetic spinners, bird and bat houses, indoor/outdoor pillows, garden flags and much more! We also received a big shipment of face masks last week with gorgeous nature designs, and they are flying out the door! We are already working on an even bigger reorder, including some fall, winter and holiday choices.

LATE SUMMER SLOWDOWN is a real thing! It's that time of year when activity really quietens down at our feeders. Youngsters have fledged and dispersed, and there's an abundance of natural foods available. We often get concerned calls or even seed returned because customers think something is wrong. Don't worry! The slowdown is entirely normal and happens every year. We do recommend buying smaller amounts of seed at a time in the fall months. Also, with Cole's still being in short supply, many of you are trying new seed blends. Birds are creatures of habit, so be patient when you switch it up. Watch feeders for clogging, and clean well if your see any problems with mold and mildew from all the current rain and humidity. Meanwhile, keep an eye out for neotropical migrants like warblers, tanagers, grosbeaks, orioles and more passing through. They will often visit birdbaths, or sometimes come in for mealworms or fruit. Fall is a glorious time of year for birdwatching!
