And Sew On..January 11th, 2021

Feel a Part of the
Old West!

Image

During our ownership tenure at Arizona Quilts, we have noticed the phenomena of how quilt shops are, many times, regional or even national destinations.
This phenomenon exposes itself every winter when thousands of folks from outside our state's borders migrate south to enjoy our warmer temps and beautiful sunsets. Many of these sojourners make our store a destination in their search of fabrics with a southwest flair that cannot be found in their local store back home.
As I mentioned in last week's newsletter, this phenomenon does introduce us to people from all over our country with a few Canucks thrown into the mix. Another one of those introductions I enjoyed last week while chatting with my new friend who hails from a beautiful state on our northern border.
During our conversation, she told me she and her husband were here for the National Team Roping events hosted in Wickenburg, AZ. This quaint Western town is where they are spending a portion of their winter. Her husband is a team roper who competes with thousands of other cowboys enjoying our perfect climate for these outdoor events. During our conversation, she mentioned that while her husband is out competing, she breaks out a Featherweight and commences to sew quilt tops.
Our new friend was not the first person I had met with that very similar story. While chatting about the team roping events, I was enlightened about their overall magnitude and significance to Wickenburg and our state. As mentioned on the Town of Wickenburg's website, Wickenburg is the team roping capital of the world, a factoid that this Arizona Native was recently made aware of. In just a short 34-mile drive northwest of Arizona Quilts, you can experience this small western-themed town. Once there, you can step back into our state's old West history with hundreds of cowpokes thrown in at no extra charge!
I have attached a link to the town's website for more info if you are interested in learning more.

This week we are highlighting two beautiful horse-themed fabric lines that are so real you could almost grab a fistful of mane and go for a ride!
As this winter season progresses, we hope you can get out and enjoy some of the places and sites that make
our amazing state unique.

Happy Quilting!

This is a technique that may look complicated, but is really pretty simple and fun!

Your floor will be free of threads and fabric scraps. You will always be able to find your pins and they will stay sharp in the nutshell pincushion. Also, store your most used tools such as small scissors, marking pens and a seam reipper so they will be close at hand. You will love being so organized that you will want more than one!
