A Beloved Seminarian Bids OLC
Farewell Before Heading to Rome
Throughout these 50+ years of Our Lady's Center's existence, many priests, religious, deacons and even a consecrated virgin have, at least in part, discerned their vocations here. This is, after all, one of the primary purposes upon which OLC was founded.
Well, we are very honored to announce that we have acquired permission from one young seminarian to relay to our patrons that he in fact actually received his call to the priesthood while in adoration in the Chapel at OLC! Many of you know Jordan Damewood, or perhaps you know his parents, Mike and Kim, who have been active at St. Louis for years in ministries such as ACTS Retreats and Kingdom Builders. Jordan began coming to OLC a number of years ago as a young teenager, to peruse the bookstore, converse with staff, attend Friday evening Masses with his young friends, and then head out to the local ice cream stand afterwards.
Jordan has related to us that on June 16, 2021, a date he will never forget, he was praying in Adoration in the OLC chapel when he received a distinct call to the priesthood. It was the Feast Day of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, and we have no doubt that the Blessed Mother's hand laid gently but firmly upon the shoulder of this fine young man that day.
Jordan did not hesitate in applying to the Saint John Paul II Seminary in DC, the only collegiate seminary in the area, accepting students directly out of high school. Jordan earned his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and graduated this past Spring. He received the honor of being accepted into the North American College in Rome to continue his studies for the priesthood. Just a couple weeks ago, he boarded a plane for Italy.
On the day before he left, Jordan made a point of stopping in to OLC to attend Mass, thank us all, and to bid farewell. "Gratitude," Jordan told us, "Is the highest affectation of the spiritual life." And he wanted us to know he is extremely grateful for the support he received here through the years. Please continue to pray for Jordan and all the seminarians in formation. Your prayers are bearing good fruit!
One parting quote from Sem. Jordan which we thought we would share (because we think it's awesome): "Our Lady's Center is the Basilica (in DC) but 1/2 the price, 1/5 the size, and yet with everything you need." How is that for a ringing endorsement? We'll take it!
