Vigil Mass for the Feast of the Assumption
Friday, August 14th, 7:30 pm
Come to your local Marian Shrine to celebrate the Blessed Virgin Mary's Feast Day! The Feast of the Assumption honors the 4th Marian Dogma which proclaims that Mary was assumed body and soul into Heaven and that she exists already in that glorified state that will be ours after the resurrection of the dead. More on the history of this dogma HERE. The Feast of the Assumption is normally a holy day of obligation, but as it falls on a Saturday this year, it is not obligatory in our archdiocese. Still, those of us devoted to the Blessed Virgin love the opportunity to honor her.

1000 Hail Marys Day of Prayer
Saturday, August 22nd, 8:30 am Mass - 2 pm
The Legion of Mary Undoer of Knots Praesidium will once again host a day of prayer commemorating the Solemnity of the Feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The day will be a condensed version of the usual devotions but will still include Holy Mass, Exposition, Adoration, and Petitions with the 1000 Hail Marys. We are hoping that more people will be able to participate for the entire event.

All are welcome in the Conference room to help make easy no-sew blankets for children in crisis situations. Materials & instructions provided.

Goodbye to Our Dear Friend, Ann
Our beloved friend, Ann O'Neill, passed recently from this life to her eternal reward. Her childhood healing from leukemia was the miracle used for the canonization of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Ann's devoted mother had prayed to the saint for her intercession. Ann's life became one of living gratitude and glorifying of God. She often visited OLC and was an especially close friend of Board Member, Carolyn Niebauer. Ann had, in fact, driven Carolyn to OLC on June 30th for a Linus Blanket Making session, just a little over a month ago. Her passing was a shock to all who knew and loved her, yet we have the blessed assurance through faith that, having lived a life of holiness, she had long prepared for the moment when she would run into the arms of her loving Savior. We can only imagine her joy at her finally meeting St. Elizabeth Ann Seton face to face! Join us in praying for the eternal repose of her soul and for her intercession. Congratulations
to the Winner of the Patriotic Basket!
Mary Tirshman, an OLC Project Linus Blanketeer, is the winner of the massive, "tall ship-sized" patriotic basket that had, for a time, berthed magestically upon our kitchen table. The impressive basket was raffled off in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and included two tickets to the Sight & Sound Theater in Lancaster. The raffle was a wonderful success, raising over $2,000 for OLC! Thank you to all who entered and supported our efforts, as well as Carolyn Niebauer who donated the items for the basket, assisted by Diane Andrews and Gail Segedy,

Wanted: Blanketeers!
Many hands make light work, and many fingers make many knots! The Linus Project Blanket Making group has been going strong here at OLC for over 8 years! Currently, we have completed around 2,600 blankets which have been blessed and distributed to children in crisis situations. Some of our Blanketeers need to pass the torch to others. Please come to our next workshop on Tuesday, August 11th at 1 pm in the Conference room. Instructions and materials are provided for these easy, no sew blankets.

Our Lady's Center Marian Shrine is a 501(c)3 non-profit Catholic lay apostolate within the Archdiocese of Baltimore located outside of Baltimore, Maryland in Ellicott City. We offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and confessions upstairs in our chapel each weekday and on first Saturdays. Downstairs in our beautiful store, we carry a large selection of Catholic books and religious articles to meet every need. We have many monthly events and activities. |
