[Part 2]

My story in July’s Newsletter detailed my epic journey from Portland to Toronto via New York to get to my niece’s wedding. In Part 1 of the story I was in a race against time to catch my connecting flight. I was running towards Gate 42 at JFK—out of shape, out of breath, overheating … Did I make it? …
Image

I made it,...but not really. The flight was gone… (nooooo!)

I started dragging my sorry tail back to meet my companion (my new Chilean friend who was trying to make the same flight!) He was as deflated as me. Then to try and secure those tickets that were pre-booked on the next flight. What a fight! I won’t even begin to talk about the “fine” customer service from a certain airline. In the end, we won out and got our tickets. It was so distressing though – I’d never make it to the wedding. I called Paul in a sea of unhappiness!

He was the voice of calm though. “Leave it to Sheila (our daughter) and me. We’ll work everything out!”.

The flight from New York to Toronto arrived way, way past my original landing time. I called Paul. “I am here! Where are you?” They were just arriving at the terminal (Paul had already collected Sheila in downtown Toronto). He said “meet us out front!” I did and I climbed into my chariot. My dear lovely husband had a flask of tea for me (I know, some of you think it should have been whiskey!) and a sandwich! Food of the gods!! He had brought everything for me to prepare for the wedding. And we still had time. We zoomed along the 407 searching for my dressing room. Ah, there we are! We turned into the Tim Hortons! Yup, dressing for a wedding in the Timmies bathroom. Life is interesting. Unfortunately, I hadn’t showered or washed my hair for two days (since I was supposed to be having a nice relaxing shower in my own bathroom prior to dressing carefully and leisurely). I splashed my face and brushed my teeth – better already! My daughter supplied some dry shampoo – oh well, no one will be looking at me anyway. I squeezed my flight swollen feet into my dress shoes – it’ll be fine! And it was! It was delightful!

We saw family that we hadn’t seen in a long time. The wedding was beautiful. I felt completely surreal which is probably why I didn’t care how I looked and only cared that I’d made it. But I will never ever forget Nicole’s wedding day!!!
