Wow, where did January go? February is almost in our midst, and we hope you are ready for some fantastic upcoming events here at CYM.
We’re looking forward to:
- SAA's Parents as Partners- CYM parent Melanie Drake, a veteran of the Parents as Partners program, fills you in on this valuable resource for parents! This series began January 25, but there is still time to register!
Upcoming Performances:
- January 31, 1:00pm- Ms. Sonia and CYM pianists perform in the pre-concert for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, and William Tell Concert (there is also a W+A field trip to this concert!)
- February 6- Mr. Mark and CYM guitarists pre-concert performance at Pittsburgh Classical Guitar Society concert featuring Adam Kosser.
- February 20- Sonata Silhouettes Community Concert with Ms. Leah in CYM Sewickley 2:00pm
- February 20- Jazz Workshop with Brett Williams on Saturday, at CYM Sewickley, 10:00-12:00pm.

Participating in CYM's February Practice Challenge? Want a two-fer?
Participate in Chamber Music Pittsburgh's Practice Challenge!
It’s time again for Chamber Music Pittsburgh’s annual Practice Challenge, where students in grades K-12 can practice their way to a free concert ticket and discounted tickets for their parents and siblings! This year, the practice challenge will culminate at the Quatuor Ebéne concert on Monday, March 21, 7:30 PM at the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland.

- Cello Group 12:00 PM Saturday, February 6 in Wexford
- Guitar Group 9:00 AM Saturday, February 13 in Wexford
- Voice Group 11:00 AM Saturday, February 13 in Sewickley
- Piano Group 9:00 AM Saturday, February 20 in Sewickley
- Violin Group 9:00 AM Saturday, February 27 in Sewickley
Department Groups are very important! Plan to attend.
Monthly department groups are a meeting of each instrument’s full department- cello, piano, violin and viola, guitar, and voice. During the 45-60 minute group class, students may learn from a different teacher than their lesson instructor, focus on instrument or voice specific music literacy or technique goals. Examples of this could be things like musicality and phrasing, tempo, or stage presence. The class is also an excellent opportunity for students to perform their pieces for one another in a repertory class style. Sometimes department groups may work in conjunction with a master class, workshop or activity, or special performance, such as a spot on the Saturday Light Brigade Radio program or opening for a PSO concert.
Participation in department group is for everyone!
