Eucharistic Adoration during the March for Life
Friday, January 19th, 12:30 pm - 7:30 pm
The 51st Annual March for Life in Washington DC takes place on January 19th. Whether in person or virtually, hundreds of thousands will take part, people of all walks of life who share the deep conviction that the sanctity of all human life must be defended for a just culture to exist. If you are not physically able to attend the March, please join us in spirit by coming to the OLC chapel that day anytime between our 12:00 Noon and 7:30 pm Masses to pray before the Blessed Sacrament for the cause of Life, that hardened hearts will be softened and eyes opened to the beauty and dignity that each human life inherently contains, from the moment of conception to natural death. If we see with the eyes of Christ, every single human life is infinitely valuable.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3RD:
First Saturday with St. Blaise Feast Day Blessing of Throats
at the 10:30 am Mass
Join us for Mass and have your throat blessed with candles. This tradition dates back to the 4th century after St. Blaise, a bishop and martyr saved a boy choking on a fishbone. We invoke St. Blaise for his protection against any physical ailment of the throat. Let us also pray for protection against any spiritual ailment which may find vent through our throats: profanity, cursing, unkind remarks, or gossip.

IN THE NEWS...

OLC Christmas Party 2023
Celebrating Christ's Birth with Old Friends and New
Many thanks to all who came out to our Patron Pot Luck Party and brought delicious treats to share. We loved having you! Our beloved and joyful Fr. Gerard Lynch came down after Mass to bless the food before so dutifully returning to the Chapel to hear confessions. Thankfully, he was able to rejoin the party and enjoy the delicious food and lively conversation. He sends his love and gratitude for all your prayers for his health and recovery.

Raffles Raise Over $5500!
Our annual Christmas Basket Raffle was another enormous success. Thank you to all who donated items and services and to all who entered. We wish that every single one of you could have won, but it is our hope that you at least feel rewarded in knowing that your generous, enthusiastic support enables us to continue this unique and holy ministry of bringing people to Christ through Mary.

Here are the
2023 CHRISTMAS RAFFLE BASKET WINNERS:
Image
Basket #1 Light of the World:
Selina Conant

We recall Selina asking if she needed to be present to win as she'd be traveling to the Philippines and Singapore visiting family at the time of the drawing. We had assured her that winners need not be present, and so she bought her ticket. She was absolutely delighted to hear the news on the other side of the world that she had won and can't wait to get back to retrieve her basket.
Image
Basket #2 Step into Christmas: Rosemary Scherba
Rosemary actually bought a bunch of tickets the very morning of the raffle drawing! We were very careful to shuffle the tickets well before the drawing.
Image
Basket #3 Where Charity & Love Prevail: Deborah Catherine
Deborah bought her ticket while attending the St. Nick Day event at OLC on Dec. 6th with her grandchildren. Along with winning the contents of the basket, she also got to designate a charity for half the proceeds of this basket ($450). Deborah spent some time discerning which charity to choose but in the end decided to donate those proceeds right back to OLC! We are so very grateful!
Image
Basket #4 Family Basket of Blessings: Carol Zieba
The owner of the first ticket drawn, Mary Matthews, told us to choose another as she had won in the past and wished to share the joy. The next ticket drawn belonged to Carol who was completing the 33 Days preparation at OLC for consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. She is immensely grateful because her dear family member who just received custody of their child is in need of many items to make their house a home! God is so good!

St. Nicholas Day 2023!
Once again, our illustrious president, Jack Kissane, reprised his role as St. Nicholas to the general delight of children, parents and shopping patrons alike. This is one of our favorite traditions, complete with chocolate gold coins left in the children's shoes for them to find!

"Life After Death"
Fr. Kenneth Lukong discussed his recently released book, and the response was wonderful. We hope to have him reprise his talk, as many who wished to attend were unable. Fr. Maurice Akwa left a glowing review on Amazon, which you can view HERE. But buy the book through us if you can!

Ties That Bind
A well earned celebration was thrown for our Project Linus Blanketeers and their remarkably productive fingers. As more people wander down after Mass to discover just how simple this knot-forming process is to learn and how rewarding it can be, deep and lasting friendships are being formed. Everyone is welcome on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. Marsha Kessler, Howard County Project Linus Chapter Coordinator, is a regular attendee of the sessions at OLC, and she and Carolyn Niebauer have become inseparable pals. Marsha routinely posts on her chapter's Facebook page about OLC. You can fire it HERE.
