On Friday, November 7, Joanne is returning to hone our lettering skills. This is called the "Artful Lettering Book Tour" class. In this class you will create a journal just like the one shown in her book, and Joanne will cover about a dozen of her favorite techniques for the book.

For all students in either the Friday class or the Saturday class..all tombow markers will be 30% off.

This journal will serve as a great source of inspiration for you, and you can practice and add to the book...and even make new ones as it fills. If you already have a copy of her book, The Art of Whimsical Lettering, you will need to bring it to class, along with a composition book, a few glue sticks, and your "pen stash." (We currently have the book on hand for purchase, if you do not have one. If you are taking the class, you may receive 10% off of the book price.)  It is not required to have the book, but it will be helpful.  Also, some smaller pieces of decorative paper, or scrapbook patterned paper will be a good addition to the book.
Here is the official list of what to bring to class.
STUDENT SUPPLY LIST: Bring a wide ruled, school grade hard cover composition book, your favorite lettering markers, small watercolor (pans) set, black pens, alcohol markers (i like Copic, ), black waterproof pens like Micron or Pitt, pencil, eraser, glue stick, assorted washi tape.
***BOOK PURCHASE HIGHLY SUGGESTED FOR EACH STUDENT ***Students will learn and elaborate on several techniques from my book to start their inspiration journal.  Book signing during class work.

Class space is limited, and the class cost is $65, non-refundable.
Class will run on Friday, Nov. 7, from 10am-4pm, with a lunch break.
We are adding a second session for Joanne's Lettering Class, on Saturday, November 8, for those of you who are not able to make a Friday Class. Joanne is a great teacher ...not to be missed...you will get so much from her class. Same cost and time. This is the same class as is being offered on Friday, so same supply list applies. You can check out the details here.

I couldn't resist adding a few photos of what is new in the store...going forward, these will appear mostly on the blog.  Here is Carta Bella's new release...a little bit woodsy, with a little of the holidays thrown in there, too.

After the ordering mix-up was solved, we finally have a  supply of the smaller  gauge, fine line applicator in stock now. This is the adhesive that Pam Carriker told me would work well...this plus PVA glue, which is on its way in.  This is the 20 gauge needle tip. It works well with fluid acrylics and glues. The 18 gauge works well for heavy body acrylic paints.

Here's a bit of Inspiration...
well, a few bits. First, this great stamp actually does translate into a great colored image. It was embossed with Hero Arts white embossing powder, on watercolor paper. Using a small round brush, wet the areas you want to color, touch your brush to your watercolor paint, and let it flow across the wet paper. Clean the brush and do another section.

My question is, really, when does Kate B. sleep?? ...really??...another great artful sample...Fantastic!
This one is nestled into a white Ikea frame (we have a few for sale here.)  The lower pic shows the elements Kate used to create this: The tattered poinsettias die from Tim Holtz (always a classic), Martha Stewart's sprig punch, Penny Black's word dies, and the set of eight prints, ready for framing and other altered holiday art, (you can see six of the eight pics in the photo.)  Missing from the photo is the Impression Obsession Pine Tree Branch die...one of my favorites...Come in and check it out!

The last bit of "inspiration" comes in the form of this burlap stocking...in case you have a new family member this holiday season...or need to revitalize your supply..also, a great hostess gift, filled with candy or treats...(Although...isn't anything filled with candy a great gift??)
On the blog, there is a full description of how it was done, with pictures of each step.    (you can't tell from this photo, but the white holly is covered in glitter...of course.)
All the supplies are available here at the store. You can see the instructions here.
(You might need to scroll down an article or two...I seem to keep putting stuff up there!)
