## PRESS RELEASE ##

The Annapolis Pottery is delighted to announce an upcoming event, “A Day of Claywork and Music” featuring artists Beyoncé and Taylor Swift on Saturday, May 2nd in Annapolis.

In addition to being musical megastars, both artists are accomplished ceramists as well. Taylor Swift, who has sold more than 40 million records worldwide, will kick-off the event with a throwing demonstration at The Annapolis Pottery located in beautiful downtown Annapolis.

“Taylor’s work is incredible,” states Melanie Murphy, president of The Annapolis Pottery, “her technique in applying mug handles is really unique, and like everything else Taylor does, she has a style all her own when it comes to creating pottery.”

Beyoncé, winner of 20 Grammy Awards, will also be on hand to demonstrate her slip-trailing and wet glazing techniques. “What can you say about Beyoncé?” states Murphy, “She has a range of three and a half octaves and her brushwork is simply unparalleled. We’re just so fortunate that both Beyoncé and Taylor could come on by the shop for a little fun.”

Pottery demonstrations by Ms. Swift and Ms. Beyoncé will begin at noon downtown. Later in the afternoon, they will move to The Annapolis Pottery at Westfield Mall for additional demonstrations.

“We developed the idea for the event after Paula Deen visited our shop a couple of years ago. It’s a little known fact that so many talented artists and celebrities just love to get their hands into the clay. We met Beyoncé and Taylor, and the whole concept just clicked for us all” said Murphy.

Beginning at 5:00pm, both artists will return to State Circle where they’ll perform a free concert from the rooftop stage being constructed on top of The Annapolis Pottery. Admission is free on the State House Lawn.

“At first, I objected because I am a huge Shakira fan, and I thought it would be great if she came. But what a fun day this will be,” states Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, “using our public space for the benefit and enjoyment of the public. Melanie and The Annapolis Pottery team approached us with the idea after the election, and I thought it was fantastic. I can’t wait to see Beyoncé’s work come out of the kiln! Maybe next year, we can get Shakira.”

Not to be outdone, Annapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides will lead a “Moonwalk Parade” ala Michael Jackson during the concert. The parade will proceed backwards, of course (but not against the one-way flow of traffic), around State Circle. Joining Mayor Pantelides will be the entire 14th Company of the US Naval Academy, under the direction of Midshipmen Keenan Reynolds and Thomas Wester.

“This is gonna be great!” said the Mayor.
